Seventh Day Adventists: Is it OK for a man to shave on the Sabbath before church?

Being born and raised SDA, I never saw my dad shave before sundown Friday. He always shaved Friday morning and Sunday morning. Completely skipping Saturday. I am Jewish now. So is my boyfriend. He doesn't shave on sabbath.
