Family road trip from chicago?

Looking to take a family road trip less than 1000 miles (1way) from Chicago. Destanation not that important as long as its fun and has things to check out along the way. We have done orlando and mt rushmore so looking somewhere besides there. Kids range from 6-12 any suggestions appreciated. Thanks
